Clifford Martin's Unofficial

General Motors SUV Information Site

The purpose of this web site is to provide an independant source of information about the General Motors full sized, new body style sport utility vehicles. It includes information on the GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and the Cadillac Escalade. I am the proud owner of a 2000 Yukon SLT, pictured above, hence my interest in these vehicles.

This site started as a place to list the little defects and problems often seen during the first production year of a new vehicle. It has grown to the current configuration, which includes frequently asked questions, links to related sites, photos of show trucks, new vehicle inspection checklist, and news/rumors/press releases. Information presented on the site has been gathered from a number of sources, including the Edmunds.com Town Hall forum, GM web pages, after market parts supplier information, my personal experiences and other people's experiences.

The information presented is done as a public service and not meant to defame or in any way cause anyone or any company damage. It is meant to help enhance the ownership experience and keep people informed as to what is happening in the real world. So if you find things listed to be wrong, offensive, or in any way not true, please contact me before taking legal action, so that I can correct the situation.

The amount of information contained on this site has grown since it was first put on-line. To make it easy for everyone, I have now divided the information onto separate web pages. Please click on the desired topic below:

Editorial: These new design vehicles are nice, but for their price I feel that GM could have gone further with them. Options which are available on other GM vehicles should be made available on these vehicles. Examples of these include:

  • Steering wheel radio controls
  • Factory installed multi-disc CD players
  • Upgraded audio systems with graphic equalizers and powerful bass
  • Better outside trim (including wheel opening moldings)
  • Vehicle information computers (that show fuel remaining, gas mileage, miles to empty, etc.)
  • Memory seats linked to buttons on remote key fobs
  • Locking Gas Filler door
  • Ability to get any available exterior color in any trim level

I would also like to see the option to select the brand of tires shipped on the vehicle. GM has greater buying power than I do as an individual, so they should be able to offer tire brands, like Michelins, at a low cost upgrade option instead of me having to eat the full cost of changing over brands of tires when I receive the vehicle.

For those of us who had to special order our vehicles, GM needs to improve how they handle the order process and provide status updates to the future owners. In this age of computers it is really bad that GM can't seem to track the shipment of vehicles once they leave the factory. This is an area that needs improvement.

As I said, this section is an editorial statement and I can only hope that someone from GM will read this and get the company to improve.
